We are delighted to announce that Prader Willi Syndrome Association Ireland (CHY 15171) has been awarded €8000 from the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal grants by Community Foundation Ireland (RCN: 20044886).

Our project, The Provision of Dietitian Advice and Help for Children and Young People Who Have Prader-Willi Syndrome in Ireland, is thrilled to have received a grant of €8000 from the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal. This support will help change children and young people lives for good by enabling access to expert dietary care tailored specifically for those living with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS).

About the Project

Children and young people with PWS face unique and complex challenges around diet, food behaviour and nutrition. Effective dietary management is critical to their physical health and emotional wellbeing. This project aims to provide specialist advice and direct support from a qualified dietitian with in-depth knowledge of PWS- a vital resource for families across Ireland.

What the Grant Will Enable

With this funding, we can provide children with access to a dietitian who understands the complexities of PWS- including hyperphagia (insatiable appetite), metabolism issues and the need for strict dietary regulation. The grant will allow for individual, personalised consultations and the development of tailored food plans, along with support to help the person with PWS and their family make informed, healthy food choices.

Ultimately, this project will improve long-term health outcomes and give families the confidence and tools to support their children’s needs.

Derek Corrigan, Vice-chairperson at PWSAI said:

“We are incredibly grateful to the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal and Community Foundation Ireland for this funding. The needs of children with Prader-Willi Syndrome are often misunderstood, and specialised dietetic support is essential. This grant will make a meaningful difference to families across Ireland, giving them access to expert advice that can help improve health and wellbeing for their child with PWS.”
