PWSAI was started by parents in the late 1980s as a support group for people with PWS and their families in Ireland. It formalised its status in 2002 when it became a company limited by guarantee. It has retained company status since and in 2012 changed its memorandum and articles of association to allow it to begin formally registering members. PWSAI has a full-time Development Officer whose role is fully funded and it also relies on volunteers for other  activities. It is audited annually and submits annual accounts to the Companies Office.

The Story of Our Logo

The Prader-Willi Syndrome Association Ireland logo is centred around three simple balloons but behind them is a powerful story.

Each balloon represents a stage of life:
Childhood, Adolescence & Adulthood

Together, they reflect the reality that Prader-Willi syndrome is a lifelong condition and that individuals and families need understanding, care and support at every stage of that journey.

The balloons rising upward symbolise hope, growth and potential. They remind us that with the right support, people with Prader-Willi syndrome can continue to learn, develop and thrive throughout their lives.

Their bright colours reflect the individuality of each person and the positivity and strength found within our community. While every journey is different, no one walks it alone.

At its heart, our logo is not just about a condition—it is about people, families and community. It represents connection, support and the shared belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to grow, belong and reach their full potential.
