You might hear parents/carers say to use Concrete Language and be wondering what this means?

Concrete language is specific and gives a clear understanding.

Try not to be vague by using “maybes, mights and coulds”. Phrases can also cause confusion sometimes.

Family member: I’ll put my thinking hat on.
Person with PWS: Where is your hat? Are you thinking? Do you know the plan?
Family member: I’m sorry. I’ll explain. I used a phrase. It means that I’m thinking. The plan is… a,b,c.



Person with PWS: What is the plan for today?
Family member: We might go to the park for a walk.
Person with PWS: Brilliant, a walk in the park.
Family member: I said might.
